CitizenDetroit
Building on Detroit’s proud history of civic action by making it “the most informed and engaged city in the nation.
The Task: Help a newly independent nonprofit keep its momentum and reputation of deep community engagement while building infrastructure. We created content for multiple events and programs.
Role: Design direction and implementation, client thought-partner, production manager—and later, as we brought on additional design help, creative mentor.
The Solution: Develop and implement consistent visual messaging and branding elements, including language, organization diagramming, and event collateral. As the organization hit its stride and content went from experimental to established, I began to teach the CitizenDetroit team how to continue using the processes and materials put into place, which included understanding brand implemenation to handing off vendor relationships.
The Approach: Dive into the CitizenDetroit culture and join events to best understand their needs and strengths, continuously adjusting our support based on that. Weekly staff meetings, one-on-one touchpoints, and monthly production calendars were all part of the content creation.
This work was done as a member of the EarlyWorks, llc team. As the company’s lead designer, we worked side-by-side with CitizenDetroit as brand and strategy partners.
